Surf region
South Africa's coastline stretches for roughly 2,800 km between two very different oceans. On the west, the cold Atlantic serves up crisp, powerful waves at spots like Elands Bay, Long Beach and the big-wave reef at Dungeons, usually in water between 10°C and 15°C. Head east and the Indian Ocean warms up, from the right-hand points of Cape St Francis and Seal Point to Victoria Bay, Nahoon Reef and the Durban piers. Southern Ocean cold fronts deliver the most consistent swell from about April to September.
