Nahoon Reef Surf Report & Forecast

Nahoon Reef in East London is one of the Eastern Cape's most powerful waves, a right-hand reef that breaks off the point beside the Nahoon River mouth. The outside reef handles very big swells, with steep drops and heavy, bowling sections, while the inside section, known as the Corner, offers a more forgiving wave.

It works best on south to south-westerly groundswells, with westerly winds blowing offshore, and it can hold size when much of the coast is out of control. On bigger days a strong current runs north along the reef, and the crowd thins out quickly as the size goes up.

The Reef is for experienced surfers, while confident intermediates can try the Corner on smaller days. East London has a history of shark encounters, there are urchins among the rocks and the current can be strong, so use the concrete pathway to reach the water and always surf with others.
