Asia's surf scene runs on the monsoons. On Sri Lanka's east coast, Arugam Bay's main point is a fun, consistent right-hander that works best from about April to October, when the south-west monsoon blows offshore. In the Philippines, Cloud 9 on Siargao Island is the hollow right-hand reef barrel that put the island on the surfing map, typically at its best from about August to November when typhoon swells reach the coast. Both break over reef, so watch the tide and mind the shallow sections.
