Victoria Bay Surf Report & Forecast

Victoria Bay is a tiny cove between George and Wilderness, tucked beneath steep cliffs with the old railway line running above it. On its western side a right-hand point breaks over boulders and a rocky shelf, delivering short, punchy, vertical walls that many consider the best right-hander in the Southern Cape.

The wave works on south to south-westerly swells and is at its best in the two- to four-foot range, with northerly winds blowing offshore. Larger swells quickly become hard to handle in the small bay, and at low tide the rock shelf and protruding rocks make the inside more hazardous, so mid to high tide is usually the call.

The take-off is concentrated on one rock, so the lineup is tight and busy, especially in summer and during the holidays. It suits intermediate surfers who can position themselves well and respect the locals, and there is a sheltered tidal pool and beach for the family while you surf.
