About JBay Waves
A surf brand from Jeffreys Bay, for anyone who plans their week around the swell.
JBay Waves is a surf brand from Jeffreys Bay, on South Africa's Eastern Cape coast, home of one of the best right-hand point breaks on the planet. We started in 2025 with a simple idea: make things for anyone who plans their week around the swell. That began with the tees in our online store at jbaywaves.store, and it has grown into this website, a surf hub built in J-Bay for surfers everywhere.
What you'll find here
- Live surf reports and forecasts. Check the waves from home before you load the car. We cover the main sections of the point at J-Bay, the best breaks around South Africa and a hand-picked list of world-class waves, with 7-day forecasts, swell, wind, tides, water temperature and a simple 0 to 6 surf rating.
- AI-assisted forecast summaries. Short, plain-language summaries of what the forecast means for each spot, plus an "Ask the surf AI" assistant for quick questions about conditions.
- World surf news. Headlines from surf publications around the world in one place, with links to read the full stories at the source.
- Stories and guides. Practical guides on reading forecasts, etiquette, boards, wetsuits, fitness and ocean safety, plus surf travel ideas and the stories of the surfers and contests that shaped the sport.
- Free guides. Downloadable PDFs, from our J-Bay Surf Guide to a surf trip packing checklist, written to be printed, saved and shared.
- The newsletter. Swell alerts, surf news, new guides and store drops, sent only to people who sign up, with an unsubscribe link in every email.
How our forecasts work
Our surf reports are built from marine and weather model data supplied by Open-Meteo, which we turn into surf heights, wind quality and ratings for each spot using its swell window, ideal wind and size range. The AI summaries are written from that same data. Forecasts are computer-model estimates, not guarantees, so use them to plan and always look at the water yourself before you paddle out.
What we believe in
- Respect the ocean and the locals. Know your limits, learn the hazards and remember that every line-up is someone's home break.
- Community. Surfing is better shared, whether that means a lift to the beach, a tip about the tide or a story at the braai afterwards.
- Stoke. The feeling after a good surf is why we do any of this. Find your wave, and live by the tide.
