Surfing Anchor Point
Anchor Point is the best-known wave in Taghazout, the surf village about 20 km north of Agadir on Morocco's Atlantic coast. It is a long right-hand point that peels along a rocky shelf, producing powerful walls that can run for several hundred metres on a clean, solid swell.
The season runs from autumn to spring, when North Atlantic storms send north-westerly groundswell down the coast. The point needs a decent swell to start working properly and comes into its own above head high, when the sections link up and the walls get long and fast. Light north-easterly to easterly winds blow offshore, and it works through most of the tide.
It suits intermediate to advanced surfers who can handle power and a rocky entry and exit, both best timed between sets. The lineup is international and can be busy in peak season, so arrive early, share the waves and enjoy the view of the village from the water.
