Surfing Tubes

Tubes sits further down the J-Bay point, between Impossibles and the Point, and lives up to its name with a short, intense barrelling section. The wave hits a shallow patch of reef and pitches quickly, giving a few seconds of tube before the wall softens into the deeper water further down the line.

It works best on medium-sized winter swells from the south-west, groomed by light westerly to south-westerly winds. When the swell is too big the section can close out, and when it is small it tends to be inconsistent, so it is a spot to target on clean, mid-range days.

Because it is shorter and often less crowded than Supertubes, Tubes attracts experienced surfers looking for a quality barrel without the full pressure of the main lineup. Expect a fast, hollow take-off over shallow rock, and take care entering and leaving the water.
